Why creativity belongs at the centre of youth development
We often treat creativity as a nice extra. Our program data suggests it may be one of the strongest predictors of a young person's confidence and resilience.
Across the last three years of programs, we placed creativity training at the centre of the curriculum, not as an after-school add-on. The results were not surprising: far more students volunteered work, asked questions, and asked for help.
Creativity is not a gift; it is a skill that can be practiced and affirmed. When a teenager signs their name to a work for the first time in a show, they change more than the piece — they change how they see themselves.
Our recommendation: give creativity a fixed seat at every class, every review, and every conversation.
